Rob Greenfield, founder of The Greenfield Group, was able to begin his Off the Grid Across America cycling adventure earlier this week. He is determined to ride his bike over 4,500 miles completely off the grid, meaning he must generate off the grid electricity, eat locally unpackaged foods, and much more. You can learn all about the trip by visiting Greenfield Adventures.
Rob got off to a rough start. He was initially supposed to leave on 4/20/2013, from San Francisco Earth day. Since he came into some trailer problems, he was trapped in the city for a couple of days.
After finding a replacement trailer, Rob was able to hit the road on Monday, April 22, 2013. Since then, Rob has been able to graze some gardens, pick some fruit, and eat some raw eggs while traveling. He has been able to utilize Goal Zero‘s solar panels and Drips Water’s filtration systems to make sure they are never without water or energy while being 100% off the grid.
The cameraman, Brent Martin, is riding right along Rob throughout this whole trip. While he is not required to follow the rigerous rules that Rob must, he is still doing everything he can to stay off the grid by using Gobi Water Bottles and Power Pot charging for his electronic devices.
Since leaving there have been a few hiccups and challenges, but everything is looking on schedule so far. This 3 month adventure has just begun and there are plenty of entertaining, inspiring and educational videos, posts, images and blogs still to come.
